ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF MANAGEMENT AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP AT ISTANBUL TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY
Deniz Tuncalp is the Associate Professor of Management and Entrepreneurship at Istanbul Technical University (ITU). Before this position, he had various managerial, technical, and consulting positions in several corporate and entrepreneurial companies in the ICT industry in Turkey and Central, Eastern, and Southern Europe. The Startup Journal ranked him among the top 10 individuals with the highest impact on the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Turkey in 2021 (9th) and 2022 (2nd). During his service at ITU, he managed Turkey’s top technology development zone at the ITU campus as Chief Marketing Officer (2015-2018) and Chief Executive Officer (2018-2020), hosting more than 300 enterprises and 7.900 R&D personnel with $866M tech-based exports.
As part of this area, he established ITU Cekirdek Startup Incubator, ITU Magnet Scaleup Center and Innogate International Acceleration Program. ITU Cekirdek has become one of the Top-5 university business incubators in the World, according to the UBIndex.
During this period, 49.706 startup teams applied, where 2.951 startups were accepted, involving 5.545 cofounders. These groups had supported with 62.532 hours of mentoring and USD 27M seed investments or awards in annual batches. ITU Magnet Scaleup Center grew to host 76 scale-up firms on the ITU campus seeking VC-grade investment as of YE2020. Innogate International Acceleration Program accelerated 186 scale-ups, and 95 were landed to SFO between 2014 and 2020 in 12 batches.
